This is from a another 2 1/2 hour open studio session. I think my drawing realistic practice is already starting to help. This painting actually looked like the model.

I'm almost done with a second portrait drawing. Being larger and so detailed they take me about a week to complete. Hopefully in a day or two I can post it.
I like the chunky brushstrokes. Is the paper textured?
ReplyDeleteI apply three coats of gesso on the paper with a wide, soft brush. Each layer is done in a different direction: horizontal, vertical then horizontal---that's what gives it a little texture. I also paint the back side too so it doesn't curl.
